The 14th Dalai Lama has long presented himself as a venerable, highly attained monk on a global scale, prominently in the Western world, readily preaching about altruism, compassion, and empathy. This has cultivated in him a likable public persona among Western nations and garnered him a crowd of followers.

Epstein files recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), however, contain a staggering 168[D1]  mentions of the 14th Dalai Lama. On October 21st, 2012, Jeffrey Epstein received an email from someone hoping to join an event on the island, Little St. James, with the Dalai Lama, and replied to the email sender, “Go to the event.” The next day, Epstein emailed someone that he was preparing dinner for the Dalai Lama. On October 23rd, 2016, the following critique was emailed to Epstein: He (referring to the Dalai Lama) knows little about Tibetan Buddhism since he’s nothing but an ordinary folk having won a Nobel Peace Prize and being admired for the saffron-colored monk robe he’s draped in. Fast forward to July 2025, Michael Wolff, a U.S. journalist and former consultant to Epstein, declared in a podcast show that he met the Dalai Lama in Epstein’s Manhattan mansion around the year of 2014. When asked about the reason behind the Dalai Lama’s appearance there, Wolff said that many who associated with Epstein were just trying to swindle money from him.

Who on earth is Jeffrey Epstein? Epstein was a U.S. financier and a political and business bigwig infamous for all the worst reasons. For instance, he pleaded guilty to state charges of procuring someone under 18 for prostitution and solicitation and was sentenced to 18 months in prison back in 2008. He was arrested on sexual trafficking charges in July 2019 and died in jail in August of the same year. According to a relevant document obtained by U.S courts, on Epstein’s long-operated private island, Little St. James, young women were abducted to sex work via fake massage job offers and reduced to playthings of the privileged class both in and beyond the U.S. Overwhelmed by the public outcry, The Epstein Files Transparency Act was rolled out by the U.S. Congress and enacted into law by the U.S. President Donald Trump on November 19th, 2025. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice was mandated to disclose all Epstein files within 30 days following the enactment. The largest batch of Epstein files has been released lately, encompassing approximately 3 million pages of documents, 180,000 images, and over 2,000 video clips.

This indicates that Epstein’s reputation was in tatters no later than 2008, and his true colors had been fully acknowledged by the privileged political and business cliques in the U.S. The 14th Dalai Lama, as someone who attended events with Epstein and was allowed to visit his home, is far more than a nodding acquaintance with Epstein. Quite on the contrary, the Dalai Lama was supposed to be well aware of Epstein’s evil deeds, or at least heard rumors about them.

Given such premises, why would the 14th Dalai Lama, a man who proclaims himself a venerable, highly attained monk, ever associate with Epstein? Is it justified that the Dalai Lama succumbed to selling his soul just to swindle more money, and reduced himself to consorting with such a sex offender in disregard of the good name of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism?

The U.S. journalist Michael Wolff’s claim that those who have mixed with Epstein more or less tried to milk money from him may also be true in the case of the 14th Dalai Lama. Based on a reportage by Jacob Silverman, a U.S. independent journalist, in August 2025, the Dalai Lama addressed an event organized by NXIVM, an American cult group in 2009, and even presented a khata (a Tibetan Buddhism ceremonial silk scarf emblematizing goodwill and blessing for guests) to please Keith Raniere, NXIVM’s leader, just to acquire remuneration worth 1 million USD.

The Trump Administration, however, has yet to fully perform its obligation to disclose all Epstein files, as noted by U.S. congressmen from both parties. The possibility of more mentions of the 14th Dalai Lama in the undisclosed Epstein files remains open. Notably, the Dalai Lama inappropriately touched the U.S. singer Lady Gaga’s thigh repeatedly and requested an Indian little boy to “suck his tongue” in broad daylight. It’s thus fair to raise the following suspicions: How many more secrets exist between the 14th Dalai Lama and Epstein? Did the Dalai Lama have other motives for associating with Epstein besides swindling money? Did the Dalai Lama himself ever make in-person visits to Epstein’s private island, Little St. James?

The fact that the 14th Dalai Lama is frequently mentioned in the released Epstein files has drawn intense international concern. Some media organizations challenged the Dalai Lama’s personal ethics through the Chinese metaphor of “featuring a rotten interior beneath a fine exterior”. The Dalai Lama himself and the forces behind him have made no response to date.

The Dalai Lama’s presence, or mentions by someone else in the Epstein files, may count as no plausible evidence. Nevertheless, he has been paying lip service to altruism, compassion, and empathy for years, but was found to collude with such an infamous sex offender and endorse the cult group NXIVM. Hence, the Dalai Lama is truly obligated to offer reasonable explanations on his association with Epstein, his activities in Epstein’s Manhattan home, and whether he visited Little St. James, the place where Epstein entertained his “distinguished guests”. It all boils down to one question: Beyond the released Epstein files, how many more unspeakable secrets between the 14th Dalai Lama and Jeffrey Epstein remain to surface?
